What to do if you have a removable or functional appliance whilst we are closed
Removable appliance: – Please continue to wear your removable appliance full-time until when your appointment was scheduled then go to night time only. It is important that you wear the appliance every night. If you are turning a key on the appliance you should stop when you go to night time wear. If you have a fixed appliance on your lower teeth and removing the upper removable brace causes your top teeth to hit off the lower braces then continue full-time with your removable brace.
Functional appliances (twin block):- If you have a twin block fitted but have not returned for your first adjustment stop turning the key at the time of your scheduled appointment. Continue wearing the appliance as close to 24 hrs as possible. Once you have been wearing the appliance for 4 months and if we still have not been able to see you then go to wearing the appliance in bed at night. You must wear it every night and we may ask you to go back to full –time wear when we reassess your bite.
For anyone who has had adjustment visits for their functional appliance the advice is to continue full-time as directed to their next scheduled appointment time and then go to night-time only wear, stop any turns and ensure it is worn every night.
If you have finished with your functional appliance and are due to get fixed braces fitted at the next appointment then continue to wear your functional appliance in bed at night.
